Education System in Canada

Education in Canada is under the complete jurisdiction of the provinces and territories (States) and as such, there is no Federal (Central) education system in Canada.

The education institutions in Canada can be broadly classified into 4 categories:
  • Universities : Canadian Universities are largely public funded and as a result, offer consistently high quality education at lower tuition rates. These offer Bachelor's, Master's and PhD programs.
  • University Colleges : As a component of the Canadian University system, University Colleges offer students a choice of either academic oriented university degree programmes or the more practical-oriented college diplomas and certificates. They may also offer university transfer programs.
  • Community Colleges: There are 150 community colleges across Canada that offer industry driven and job ready programs. These offer Diploma certificate, applied degree programs and university transfers.
  • Career Colleges : Most of these colleges are privately owned and are spread across Canada. They offer short term specialized training in subject areas like business, technology, service industries, and art.
